Airport Reception and Transportation

A special bus service will be organized for transportation from the Athens “E. Venizelos” International Airport to Patras on July 11th 2009. For the transportation of the FEBS-MPST2009 course participants there will be buses awaiting in Athens Airport for the transportation of participants to Patras until 14:00 (local time). The timetable will be announced in the website at least one month prior the course.
For the departure transfer back to Athens and taking into consideration the air schedules and the distance between Patras and Athens Airport a special bus service will be organized on July 16th 2009 in the afternoon. Reservations should be made in advance by completing the appropriate section in the final Registration Form.

Travel

  • Patras is easily accessible from Europe through Italy. The city of Patras is     connected daily by sea with the following ports of Italy: Ancona, Brindisi, Bari, Venice and Trieste.
  • For those who will arrive by air in Athens, Patras is accessible by car, coach or train.
  1. There are express coach services from Athens (coach station is called the “KTEL Peloponnisou” in Kifissos area) with departures approximately every 30 minutes. Passengers should take bus No. 53, outside the Airport’s main door, to the end of the bus line where there is the Bus Central Station. From this place, buses run to Patras (regular ticket about 20 €) and the journey lasts approximately 3h (2 ½ h for express busses).
  2. From the Main Rail Station of Athens, there are regular trains to Patras every couple of hours. Main Rail Station of Athens is connected directly with Athens Airport through local train lines.
  3. Coming from Athens to Patras (about 230 km) follow the “Attica Road” from the Airport to Elefsina and continue on the New National Motorway (tollroad) following the instructions across the road. Leave the motorway immediately to your right after passing the Patras tollgates. You will see signs to Agios Vassilios, Rion and Nosokomio. After about 300 m, where the road divides, bear left under the motorway bridge and, after 500 m, the University Hospital is visible on the left. The University campus begins there.
  • Upon arrival at the Patras Port, Coach or Rail Station the easiest way to reach the University or the hotel is by taxi with a fare of about 4-6 €.

Local Transportation

Transportation from the hotels to the meeting venue and back will be provided by the Organizing Committee. Travel to Patras may be accomplished by local busses or by taxi.

Accommodation

  1. The organisers have booked Hotels by the seaside in the famous Patras gulf.
  2. Hotels offer fully renovated rooms, all equipped with air-condition, direct dial telephone, private bath or shower, hair dryer and colour television. Students and postdoctoral fellows will stay in shared double rooms.
